Parents need to know that Brown Is Warm, Black Is Bright, by Sarah L. Thomson and illustrated by Keith Mallett, is a picture book that celebrates two of nature's most important and beautiful colors. The author was inspired to write the book after realizing how unappreciated the colors brown and black are in children's books. The story is told through the eyes of an unnamed young girl, in melodic and poetic verses.

Mallett's images are dreamy and soft. Readers are left with a greater appreciation for two of earth's most prevalent and beautiful colors.
