A Lot or a Little?
What you will—and won't—find in this book.
Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that this is a wonderful book for any dog lover. It's also a great vocabulary builder and perfect for early readers. It should be noted that one of the interactive tabs lifts a dog's leg, and there's a photograph of one dog crouched in a pre-poop stance. While the pull tabs are sturdy, a 2-year-old could still pull them off.
Is It Any Good?
This is an adorable photographic board book for kids of all ages. The soft ears, shaggy fur, and pull tabs that make legs move will inspire kids to match words with the photographs of the different kinds of dogs.
Early counting, basic adjectives, and simple adverbs will help the earliest readers master both words and dog breeds. This is an excellent book to put on the floor with your youngest children and watch them entertain themselves -- even without understanding the words.
Did we miss something on diversity?
Research shows a connection between kids' healthy self-esteem and positive portrayals in media. That's why we've added a new "Diverse Representations" section to our reviews that will be rolling out on an ongoing basis. You can help us help kids by suggesting a diversity update.
