Page 3 of this book: “She sees the prostitute’s haggard eyes, haunted with fear no matter how much her red-smeared lips smile. One like her was recently found dead a few streets away, slit wide open.” I purchased this book for my 8 year old based on recommendations here and elsewhere, but it will be put away for a few years at least.

PG 13

I am a mom of 14 year-old and 12 year-old and I'm an Educational Assistant in a grade 5 class. The book mentions: "drunken cries" prostitute: "One like her was recently found dead a few streets away, slit wide open." "reeked so badly of gin" talks about homeless people "people in the gutters" bald, old woman with sores on her head Man tries to stab the main character, she's hit over the head and tied up. mentions blood I give this book a PG-13 rating. Which puts it in the Young Adult book rating.
