What's the Story?
Splat's second picture book outing (don't worry -- you don't need to have read the first to enjoy this one) is about dabbling in the world of love on Valentine's Day. With a mad -- and apparently one-sided -- crush on the fluffy, adorable Kitten and a valentine to prove it, Splat goes up against arch rival Spike to win Kitten's affections.
Is It Any Good?
The book is cute, and while the story may be predictable to adults, kids will be satisfied with the sweet and sappy ending. It's not great literature but it's a nice story with a decent moral about the kind of behavior that really does win hearts and valentines!
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about Spike's behavior -- what's wrong with it? Why do you think he behaves that way?
Also, what about Kitten? Does her behavior make sense? What's a better way for her to communicate her feelings to Splat?
