Parents need to know that Newbery-wining author Erin Entrada Kelly's Maybe Maybe Marisol Rainey is a sweet and endearing illustrated chapter book about two 8-year-olds' friendship and finding the courage to face your fears. Words in different languages such as Tagalog, Spanish, German, and French are sprinkled throughout the story. Readers will also be introduced to silent film stars such as Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, and Mary Pickford. Marisol often imagines herself falling from the giant magnolia tree in her backyard. Mild insults include "stupid."

In MAYBE MAYBE MARISOL RAINEY, 8-year-old Marisol is afraid of most things, especially Peppina, the giant magnolia tree in her backyard. But she loves silent films, naming inanimate objects, and spending time with her adventurous best friend, Jada. Jada makes climbing Peppina's branches look easy, but Marisol's scared she'll fall. Can Marisol find the courage to face her fear and climb Peppina?

Erin Entrada Kelly's endearing illustrated chapter book about family, friendship, and courage is perfect for early readers.
