What's the story?

The narrator's class is putting on a play based on the four presidents featured on Mount Rushmore -- Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, and Teddy Roosevelt. In the course of preparing for the show, the narrator shares the simplified background of each president.

Is it any good?

Kids will be interested in the presidential facts and will also be caught up in the story happening in the classroom. They'll enjoy seeing the students put together their play and then hold their own election to see who will be class president.

The bright and friendly pictures complement the simple text well and keep the story moving. Kids will like noting little details like how tall Charlie, the tallest kid in the class, gets even taller to play Abe Lincoln.

Families can talk about...

  • Families can talk about the presidents featured in the book or about our current president. They could do more research online or at the library. Kids might want to put on a play just like in the book as a post-research project.
