What's the Story?
As TIGER HONOR begins, Tiger Spirit clan member Sebin receives the letter he's been waiting for most of his life -- an invitation to join the Thousand Worlds Space Force, like his Uncle Hwan before him. Unfortunately, he also learns Hwan has been declared a traitor, accused of hijacking a spaceship and stealing the mystical Dragon Pearl. Sebin wants to side with his family, but he's also bound to honor the rules of the Space Force. Will his shapechanging Tiger powers be enough to set Hwan free?
Is It Any Good?
Space opera doesn't have to be all battle scenes, as this talky but engaging mid-trilogy volume proves. In cadet-in-trading Sebin, author Yoon Ha Lee creates a main character who's a bit of a fussy know-it-all but becomes more likable as the story picks up momentum. Lee's depiction of Korean myth is lively and imaginative, especially when Sebin and his crewmates shapeshift into tigers, foxes, and ghosts. Fantasy trilogies often sag in their middle volumes, but Tiger Honor stays engrossing from beginning to end.
