Since 2004, the annual Common Sense Awards have celebrated the visionaries who have embraced media and technology to make the world a better place for kids. Awards are typically presented to honorees in categories such as Policy Leadership, Education, Family Media, and Lifetime Achievement. Past notable award recipients and presenters have included President Bill Clinton, Harvard professor Howard Gardner, Senator Jay Rockefeller, Congressman Joe Barton, filmmaker George Lucas, author J.K. Rowling, Bill Nye the Science Guy, and many others.

Hundreds of national industry and education leaders, policymakers, and notable philanthropists attend this fundraising gala, which rotates annually among Washington, D.C., San Francisco, and New York. The awards program is presented theater-style and features moving tribute videos highlighting the achievements of each honoree, heartfelt speeches by presenters and award recipients, and inspirational live entertainment. Following the program, guests enjoy a celebratory supper buffet reception.

All funds raised through this event help Common Sense deliver our free resources to homes and classrooms throughout the country and continue to serve as the nation's most powerful voice for kids and families.
