The deep space adventures continue to grow with the latest expansion to this sci-fi strategy game. Age of Wonders: Planetfall – Invasions is more than just a couple of extra bells and whistles. It's actually a substantial addition that extends the game's lifespan for those that might have thought they had reached the end of the sci-fi war. The new playable faction, the Shakarn, feel distinctly different from anything the game has put forth so far. Their mix of disguise and stealth with pure brute force makes the faction a blast to play and a difficult enemy to oppose. The game also gives players their first encounters against the mysterious Voidbringers as late/end game content. This provides players a new obstacle to overcome as portals open up and drop enthralled enemies onto the battlefield, adding a Horde-like element to the gameplay.

Age of Wonders: Planetfall – Invasions goes even further with its gameplay advances, bringing more innovative ways to play. World Events are interesting new quirks that can shake up a conflict at any given moment. These catastrophic events change the environment in substantial ways, granting benefits and detriments to players at random and turning the tide of battle at a moment's notice. The biggest addition, and one of the most fun, comes in the multiplayer Conquered Worlds matches. These asymmetric battles give one player control of a massive established presence while all the other players work together to bring that empire crashing down. It's a unique twist on a familiar formula, and something that should appeal to fans of the game's multiplayer. Invasions is just an all-around excellent expansion, packed with more than enough new and unique content to keep fans coming back for more.
