A Lot or a Little?
What you will—and won't—find in this game.
Players are meant to be fighting in World War II scenarios against Axis forces, but heavy censorship removes references to those same Axis forces. This results in a more generic recreation of a wartime setting and confuses the motivations.
Positive Role Models
While the player's squad is presented as a generally heroic group, there's not a lot of opportunity to delve into their different personalities and motivations. Also, some changes to the content from the original turns the war into more of a generic battleground and a simple "good guys vs. bad guys" formula.
Ease of Play
While the player might control an elite commando unit, the game pushes for players to use strategic tactics and stealth, using direct fighting more as a last resort. There are new, revamped tutorials to help players learn the basics, but some controls feel cumbersome and unresponsive, often leading to mistakes during missions.
Violence & Scariness
The game's quite violent, due to the nature of its wartime setting. Gameplay encourages players to use stealth whenever possible as opposed to direct conflict. While it doesn't shy away from showing characters killing one another, often with sprays of blood and piles of dead bodies, some of the more graphic depictions of gore have been removed.

Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that Commandos 2 HD Remaster is a downloadable strategy game for Windows PCs. The game is a remake of the 2001 real-time strategy game, Commandos 2: Men of Courage. Players take controls of an diverse squad of commandos, executing missions to help turn the tide of the Second World War. The title encourages players to avoid direct confrontation, but when it happens, there's no shortage of explosions and blood. That said, some of the more graphic scenes of violence, as well as certain specific references to Axis forces, have been removed in this updated release. There are also occasional references to characters drinking and smoking.
Is It Any Good?
Some classic games have new life breathed into them with high definition bells and whistles, adding new layers to familiar formulas to create something fresh and exciting. Unfortunately, Commandos 2 HD Remaster goes in the complete opposite direction, gutting features and content from the original, leaving behind a mess of a title that'll leave fans wishing this former buried treasure had stayed buried.
For starters, while the game has been dubbed an "HD Remaster," the visuals are extremely rough. Sure, some of the backgrounds have added detail, but the character models are bland and move in a noticeably awkward manner. The controls, supposedly revamped for this release, are buggy and often unresponsive. Also, in an odd move for a game set during the height of World War II, most direct references to Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan have been removed. This makes the overall story feel watered down and even incomplete. Making matters worse, the remaster has completely stripped away the multiplayer component. The overall effect makes the game feel generic, unfinished, and significantly less than what the original Commandos 2 had to offer.
