Any time you try to update a classic game, it's a risky affair. At least that's part of the hazard facing Frogger in Toy Town. The original Frogger might not have aged well graphically, but the core gameplay mechanic still works because it's easy to learn and responsive. Frogger in Toy Town utilizes that mechanic, but unfortunately, the Apple Arcade version isn't as responsive as you would like it to be, and as a result, the game suffers significantly. It's hard to move around levels at key moments, which often results in on-screen deaths, stopping you from reaching your level goals of collecting frogs or jelly beans. The art is beautiful and the obstacles are a nice mix of new and old. Ultimately, though, the game doesn't offer enough of an advancement on the central Frogger theme and is irrevocably marred by the control issues.
