Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that LeapFrog Explorer Learning Game: Roly Poly 2: Treasure Hunt is a math-oriented downloadable app for the LeapFrog LeapPad 1 and 2. It will not work on Leapster devices as it relies on the motion-sensing capabilities of the LeapPad. Parents can customize the math skills presented via the LeapFrog Connect application and the math problems will also increase in difficulty as kids progress. Three difficulty levels allow for kids to challenge themselves in the game.
What's it about?
LEAPFROG EXPLORER LEARNING GAME: ROLY POLY 2: TREASURE HUNT invites kids to help the Roly Poly family prepare for a picnic by collecting food. Kids play as either blue Paul or pink Polley as they tilt their device through a maze-like scene to collect as many berries as possible within the time limit. They also collect flags and other food (bacon, sushi, a sandwich) by answering math questions. There are a variety of obstacles to watch out for, including frogs, bumper leafs (think pinball), and water traps. Kids can roll near a lake, at the circus, and on a mini-golf course. Parents can customize the experience using the LeapFrog Connect application and select the math facts to test.
Is it any good?
LeapFrog Explorer Learning Game: Roly Poly 2: Treasure Hunt is a cute LeapPad game. There isn't much of a plot, but kids will enjoy rolling their Roly Poly around to collect as much food as they can. The levels have plenty of variation and kids can replay them to try to beat their previous scores. It's a fun way for kids to practice their math skills, although kids spend more time rolling through the maze than solving actual math problems. With 36 levels to beat and the customizable math facts, Roly Poly 2 gets a big thumbs up.
