Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that LeapFrog Explorer Learning Game: The Magic School Bus: Dinosaurs is a learning adventure game wherein players join Ms. Frizzle's class as they travel back in time to learn about dinosaurs. Kids will see and learn about 16 dinosaurs through a series of mini-games and activities that involve a bit of math.
What's it about?
Ms. Frizzle's class is getting ready to perform a play on dinosaurs, so what better way to get into character than to learn all about dinosaurs and become one yourself? After boarding the Magic School Bus, kids will play four educational mini-games. One describes the dinosaur and asks kids to take pictures of it in a scene with other dinosaurs. The next tasks kids with recreating dinosaur skeletons after studying them in a picture. Next, they determine the relative weight of a dinosaur by comparing it on a scale to present-day objects and animals. Lastly, players have to pass a timed 10-question quiz, with yes or no answers, about the creature they've been studying. If they can finish all the games, they can \"become\" their dinosaur and play a very simple mini-game while in character; they might be a T-Rex hunting down prey or a Quetzalcoatlus soaring through the sky. As they complete each dinosaur, it gets added to a journal kids can explore to see pictures and learn other fun facts.
Is it any good?
LEAPFROG EXPLORER LEARNING GAME: THE MAGIC SCHOOL BUS: DINOSAURS will be a treat for dinosaur lovers. Kids can spend time getting to know each dinosaur better through the mini-games and will enjoy unlocking them one at a time as they move through the different time periods. Each journal entry looks like it has been written by the Magic School Bus student who studied that dinosaur, so kids may be inspired to make their own learning journals. The games are fun, and even the quiz is engaging, as it gives kids plenty of opportunities to succeed (and learn).
