A Lot or a Little?
What you will—and won't—find in this game.
Kids can learn about creative thinking and experimenting in this action role-playing game, as they test out different elemental combinations to try to come up with solutions to overcome obstacles while seeing immediate results. (Stuck on the wrong side of a river? Try using ice to freeze the water and walk across.) Kids also can learn about teamwork, as communication during co-op play is vital, not only to provide teammates with help but also to stay clear of possible friendly fire. Though unconventional, Magicka 2 is a fun way to get kids thinking outside the box and practicing teamwork skills.
Classic tale of good vs. evil, helping out those in need. Most importantly, how important it is to work together with friends to reach a common goal.
Positive Role Models
Characters work toward making the world better, protecting people, thinking outside the box to solve problems.
Ease of Play
Casting spells by combining eight available elements, targeting those spells correctly is daunting at first, but it becomes easier with practice.
Violence & Scariness
Though the game has a very cartoony look and feel, violence persistent. Defeated enemies sometimes explode, usually leave blood behind.

Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that Magicka 2 is a downloadable action role-playing game where up to four players team up in spell-slinging fun against waves of enemy monsters. Learning the combinations of elements to effectively cast spells can be tricky at first, and the difficulty can be overwhelming when playing solo. Though the game is presented in a fun, light-hearted way, it's still a relatively violent game with bloody deaths throughout, and parents should know that multiplayer is unmoderated, potentially exposing kids to inappropriate content.
Is It Any Good?
Magicka 2 is a ridiculously fun, over-the-top action role-playing game that challenges players to mix and match elements to create everything from ice shields to laser beams to fireballs. Spell-slinging is complicated at first: You initially select a combination of elements to try and then choose how and where to cast the spell (either at an enemy, an ally, or an area, on a weapon, or even on yourself). Hot keys help to keep a few of your favorite power spells handy, but to get the most out of your spell book, you'll need to invest a little extra time and effort in practice.
Magicka 2 is a game that's best shared with friends. Playing solo is entertaining enough, but it can be a chore to go through the campaign solo, as you're generally overwhelmed by the sheer number of foes. Playing with friends helps even those odds, but thanks to friendly fire you might end up getting defeated by a stray shot from an ally as often as you get speared by a goblin. That being said, some of the fun in the multiplayer matches can come from "accidentally" zapping a buddy from time to time. Either way, though, Magicka 2 is a blast to play and is not to be missed.
