A Lot or a Little?
What you will—and won't—find in this game.
The overall message is positive as the player saves mankind from a disease which has taken over robots. The heroes are triumphant over evil adversaries and cure the disease.
Positive Role Models
Dr. Light, the creator of Mega Man and Proto Man, is a talented scientist. He is a pacifist, though he does assist Mega Man by providing encouragement and equipment. Note, too, that Mega Man uses mild cartoon violence to solve problems.
Ease of Play
With Easy mode available for younger players and players less familiar with the platforming genre and a Challenge mode for practice against the boss monsters at the end of a level, the game is easily learned.
Violence & Scariness
As a retro action platforming game, your 8-bit android character shoots lasers and avoids pit traps. There is mild cartoon violence, such as being struck by a "baseball" bomb which explodes. When robots are destroyed, you see a small flash, hear a bang, and they disappear from the screen.

Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that Mega Man 10 is the 10th game in the series and designed in the 8-bit style of the original game, so it may provide parents a bit of nostalgia as they introduce the game to their children. The game is download-only and available through the Nintendo Wii, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 Live networks for $10.00 or the equivalent in network points. Players control one of two small humanoid robots that can jump, run, and fly through a 2-D environment, shooting various projectiles -- such as fire, ice, lightning, or rockets -- out of an arm cannon. The violence is cartoonish and mild, and our heroes fight for a noble reason: to save mankind and cure disease.
Is It Any Good?
MEGA MAN 10 is the 10th entry in the Mega Man series and for the first time there is an Easy level to accommodate new or younger players. In Easy mode the pit traps are not as plentiful, there may be moving platforms above the spikes and flames that players can hop on, there are fewer enemies in each stage, and the bosses at the end of the level pull a few punches. As players conquer levels, they gain new weapons and unlock "challenges," essentially a practice mode for the end-boss so they can get in a few practice rounds and try out new skills/weapons earned in a previous level before attempting him. This also provides an alternative mode of play as players can go back and take on a boss they have already defeated, which helps players overcome the frustration factor of particularly tough bosses.
Easy, Normal, and Hard game modes, as well as two playable characters with different strengths and weaknesses, ensure good re-playability. What's more, solid game design and precise controls make each play-through fun. Players will discover interesting little quirks, different looking maps, different paths that could be incredibly tough, and bosses that sometimes take a little ingenuity to take down.
