What’s It About?
R.B.I. Baseball 14 is a reboot of the classic sports video game for the original NES. The game features all Major League Baseball teams, and players can pick a team and guide them through a full season or just World Series glory in Postseason Mode. It retains the simple controls of the original, requiring only a small group of buttons to hit, pitch and field. The game also packs updated visuals and animations, yet retains the same basic gameplay that made R.B.I. Baseball an instant classic.
Is It Any Good?
R.B.I. Baseball sticks to its roots almost too tightly. The simple controls are welcome, and seem especially great for younger kids seeking an easy to play baseball game. However, players get all the warts of the original title, such as not being able to exit load screens showing the score and a lack of precision when directing throws from the field. Outside of the visuals, developers did very little to give this game more modern touches, even though it runs on newer systems. For $19.99, that's too steep a price for nostalgia.
