Resident Evil 4
What Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that Resident Evil 4 is a survival horror game for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows PCs. This is the latest chapter in the long-running Resident Evil franchise, which has influenced numerous games, TV shows, and movies, but this isn't a new story. Instead, this is a remake of a 2005 release, which itself was re-released previously in 2016. The game stars Leon Kennedy, a young U.S. government agent that has excelled at several missions, only to find himself placed on his toughest assignment yet: Leon is tasked with rescuing the president's daughter, Ashley Graham, who has gone missing in a rural village in Spain. Little does he or his associates know that their investigation will lead them into a dark nightmare filled with mutilated animals and human bodies, villagers that have been infected with a mysterious parasite, and swarming hordes of enemies that coordinate their attacks. Much of the story of the game remains the same as the previous releases, but this remake features additional cinematic angles to heighten the tension and drama of the story. Leon, for instance, has scenes with characters that provide intelligence and background information during the mission. Other events, such as the ambush and elimination of Leon's police escort into the Spanish countryside, have received new camera angles and enhancements to drive the sense of being isolated and alone against the odds. These will be substantial, particularly in settings like the first village that Leon enters, where he witnesses a police officer burned alive at the stake and is quickly swarmed by citizens as he tries to escape. Without additional firepower or rounds, Leon's sole option is to find a way to survive against being stabbed by pitchforks, hacked with axes, or cut in half with a chainsaw. Needless to say, the amount of blood and gore within the game is significant, with the remains of humans and animals frequently scattered around environments. If the player isn't careful, there will be cutscenes of Leon facing a brutal death. Strong profanity is to be expected in the final game as well as some sexual innuendo from characters, flirtatious dialogue, and some revealing outfits.
