What’s It About?
SHIN MEGAMI TENSEI: DEVIL SURVIVOR 2 RECORD BREAKER puts players in a mysterious post-apocalyptic environment ruled by demons where fear is the predominant feeling. At the start of the game, the main character receives a cryptic, troublesome text that directs you to a website predicting death. From there, the deep, engaging story centers on staying alive and making sure everyone else in your group remains safe. Through a series of winding and twisting plot turns, players suddenly realize there's much more at stake than their own lives and must figure out how to overcome the increasingly difficult obstacles.
Is It Any Good?
Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2 Record Breaker is part of the very long-running and distinctive Shin Megami Tensei video game series, all known for very complex, surreal, and sometimes overtly confusing story lines. This game fits that mold very well, with an intricate story; so long as players have the attention and focus to pay attention to all the minute details and frequent plot twists, they'll no doubt appreciate the masterful way such an intricate and imaginative story plays out.
But the gameplay itself remains somewhat flat. Though there are various puzzles and battle strategies for players to master, there's nothing inherently unique or truly captivating about the actual game mechanics, which is a disappointment considering how well crafted the overarching story is. But even with that subpar feature about Devil Survivor 2, anyone with the patience and focus to get through the entire game will come away completely satisfied.
