Campaign for America's Children

When children live in poverty -- even for a short time -- it can have long-term effects on their education, health, and income. That's why Common Sense is working to end child poverty across the United States.

#ChildTaxCredit

The American Rescue Plan improved the federal Child Tax Credit. It now provides more money, it covers kids up to age 17, and families get the full credit no matter how little they earn. Beginning July 15, eligible families will be able to receive a monthly benefit of up to $250 or up to $300 per child, depending on the age of the child.

Take these steps to make sure you get your money

If you already filed your 2019 or 2020 tax return:

You're all set! Just check your mailbox or your bank account after July 15. Your Child Tax Credit payment should be there.

If you did not file your tax return in 2019 or 2020, don't worry:

1. Enroll here to receive your Child Tax Credit payments and stimulus checks as part as the federal economic relief program. Together, these are worth thousands of dollars. Learn more about this benefit from Code for America.

2. Or, you can file a regular tax return now for even more benefits. Code for America's online tax form makes it easy. Ver en español.

More family resources The $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan offers eligible families other benefits, including assistance with internet at home, child care, groceries, and rent, all of which make a huge difference in children's overall well-being.

Spread the word: Help us spread the word so all families know about the new Child Tax Credit and other important Rescue Plan benefits. We're using social media and running ads, like this one.
