Did you know that 3 out of 4 students in California miss out on a nutritious school breakfast? Can you imagine your child succeeding in her school day without adequate food in her belly, with the nutrients needed to stimulate her brain? That's why we're so proud to be supporting AB 1240, which will increase access to school breakfasts by requiring schools to implement practical changes that integrate breakfast into the school day and make the most efficient use of existing state and federal funds. Those changes would include: requiring schools where a majority of students are eligible for free or reduced-price meals to offer breakfast; and ensuring that breakfast is served after the start of the day so kids don't miss out if they're running late. Schools with the highest need also would be required to offer breakfast free of charge to all students.
Everyone says that the best way to start your day is with a healthy breakfast. Let's make sure that every child in California has access to a healthy breakfast, giving all kids the best chance for success in their classrooms and beyond. Join Common Sense Kids Action (here) because you agree that giving our children a strong start to their day is just common sense.
