Common Sense Kids Action Hosts Reception to Celebrate Kids'-First Agenda in California State Budget

Common Sense Kids Action and our founder and CEO Jim Steyer hosted a cocktail reception at Sacramento's Downtown and Vine to celebrate the leaders and organizations working to advance a kids'-first agenda in California.

The evening was a huge success. We had an opportunity to celebrate the elected officials, staff, and organizations that have been working hard in Sacramento to make kids and education a top priority during this year's budget debate.

We were joined by Assembly Speaker Toni Atkins, Senate President Pro Tempore Kevin de León, senators Hannah-Beth Jackson and Bob Wieckowski, Assembly members Rocky Chavez and Patrick O'Donnell, State Superintendent Tom Torlakson, former State Superintendent Jack O'Connell, State Board of Education Executive Director Karen Stapf Walters, and representatives of many other organizations with whom we're working to ensure our kids and schools have the support they need.

During the event Jim and I were able to share details about Common Sense Kids Action's priorities and provide information about our recently launched Right Start Commission examining early childhood issues in California. We also were able to talk with leaders about how we want to help them advance a kid-partisan agenda in the state budget and for the rest of the legislative session.
