Common Sense Kids Action Successfully Launched!
This week, we successfully launched the newest addition to the Common Sense family, Common Sense Kids Action. It's a major new advocacy effort with a simple mission: to make kids and education our nation's top priority. If you haven't already signed up, please do so here so you can become part of this work!
Kids Action is off to a great start thanks to you. Just two days after we launched, I had the honor of being part of the announcement of a new federal student privacy bill modeled on our landmark California student privacy bill. Kids Action is also proud to have championed New Hampshire student privacy legislation that just this week received the final vote needed to pass out of the Senate chamber. The bill will now travel to Governor Hassan's desk for final signature; it will provide much-needed protection and ensure the privacy and security of New Hampshire students. We also saw progress in an early childhood bill moving through the California legislature.
National news media gave our launch prominent attention, with positive stories published in the The New York Times, The Washington Post, and the Los Angeles Times. We also made a big splash on social media, with rap artist MC Hammer, American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten, and former Boston Celtics player Bill Walton raising their voice in support of Kids Action. Join our twitter account so you, too, can have MC Hammer in your Twitter inbox!
It's only been five days since the launch, but we know that kids can't wait for opportunity. That's why we're wasting no time and jumping right into our work with a robust California agenda.
And, of course, Kids Action is more than a California movement -- it's national. Working in states across the country and in Washington, D.C., we'll harness the collective voices of parents, teachers, advocates, and policymakers to scale successes in California and promote policies that will ensure all children have the opportunity to succeed in the 21st century.
With more than $20 million already committed, Kids Action promises to be a real force behind making sure our nation's kids always come first. But we can't do this alone. We need your voice to ensure that every child has a shot at success. Join us here.
