A very good classic drama about politics.

Fascinating drama, realisticly portrayed

What's to like about this movie is how a simple gain of power can turn one good-hearted man into a corrupt villian, and the domino effect which occurs.

Captivating despite iffy themes

Just saw this movie. All I can say is: Wow. An utterly captivating classic. The movie and plot are timeless. The story is before it's time: A politician who starts off as a man of the people becomes corrupt. And corrupt he becomes. Blackmail, kidnapping, murder and having multiple affairs just scratch the surface of what Willie Stark is capable of. Much of this is done off screen, however, so it's not too inappropriate. And the performances given by the actors are also before their time. Mercedes McCambridge as Sadie, one of Willie's right-hand people and a woman he has an affair with, is deserving of the Academy Award she won. The roles of Jack (a reporter and the main character), Tom (Willie's son) and Lucy (Willie's wife) are also filled by amazing actors who give their all into these performances. The actor who portrays Willie won an Academy Award for his amazing performance. I highly recommend this film.
