Should be fine

Decent bit of violence, small bouts of language. A fun movie, but truly meant to be viewed in theaters in 3D. Still though, you can have fun watching this at home. It's just a good movie. EDIT: There is a make-out scene, where they "mate" or something. Almost the whole thing is implied, don't worry. You're not going to see two star-crossed aliens going at it. Hardly even worth mentioning. It's not a porno. Chill out, guys. Oh, and one woman at the beginning is smoking a cigarette, so if your children see the movie they will probably become drug-crazed killers later in life.

Recommended Rating: 12+ for sci-fi/action violence, sexual references and mild language

This epic sci-fi/action film presents some battle scenes where people are shot and killed, are impaled by arrows and have explosions. However, the violence itself is quite mild and not bloody. Some scenes may be too intense for young children though, especially the big battle at the end of the movie. There are many long scenes where the aliens show casual, partial nudity. There is an implied sex scene but it's shown off-screen. There are some instances of mild language.

An amazing movie by James Cameron. Excellent plot and excellent effects- as well as inspiration for thought of the future and the past.

Avatar is a movie that incorporates various themes, ideas and issues together along with a thrilling storyline. It explores such themes of human greed, exploitation of resources, treatment of other cultures, life, and a history that can repeat itself. It alludes to the early colonization of different civilizations and I believe that it is a great movie to think and to explore. Children and teenagers, as well as adults would most likely enjoy this movie- although children younger than 10 would not be able to decipher the theme and the message of the storyline. There are positive messages and positive role models- Jake Sully, in the avatar, fighting for freedom against the hostilities of humans to protect and to preserve Pandora and the Na'vi. Violence is a key to action in this movie- it shows a variety of weaponry, slightly disturbing scenes and people getting wounded- but it does not explicitly show gore. If people know what the violence was for, and understand why it was used in the movie, it would not be a problem. There are slight mentions and allusions to sex-correlated themes in the movie- namely the lack of clothing on the native Na'vi, but people would have to realize that this is merely due to a difference in culture and traditions from the 'human' way of thinking. If some people are offended or disgusted, then they are probably incapable of tolerating/embracing different cultures and civilizations. Children who are watching this movie must be explained that this is due to significant differences between our species and the portrayed native species- and realize that 'their' norms and traditions does not coincide primarily with ours and we cannot 'force' upon 'our' own cultures onto others (which would be the classical case of cultural intolerance). Some children under the age of 10 may or may not fully understand this and may be frightened. The sensual scene between Jake and Neytiri is only subtly presented- most of the children probably would not get too unsettled by this. The movie contains a fair amount of language- however this is crucial in the development of the plot as well. For example, when humans refer to the natives as 'savages,' it could be hinting at the human disregard and lack of respect for the Na'vi civilization. The language used by each character develops their persona and it is crucial in helping the audience understand what they are. The movie has awesome effects- especially the movements portrayed by the Na'vi, facial expressions, and the entire combat scenes and the portrayal of the natural environment. This movie inspires us to think- and it is an original and delightful mix of wonderful plot, history, special effects and characters that is clearly one of the films worth watching before people die. 10/10, thank you for the great movie, James Cameron, and all the people who made this film possible!

One of the best movies of all time!

(Please note: This movie is no way connected to Avatar: The Last Airbender. The Last Airbender is the movie based on the Nickelodeon series, released by Paramount.) For 13 year olds and (very mature) 12s and 11s, because during one of the fight scenes, my sister got upset. I first watched this, in, like, 2010 or 2011 (when I was 8 or 9), and, so, this movie is basically Dances with Wolves (which I have never, never, ever, watched, due to extreme violence), with aliens. Read: ALIENS. It's about this paraplegic guy named Jake (played by an intriguing Sam Worthington), who takes a trip to Pandora. "We're not in Kansas anymore. We're on Pandora". Pandora's basically a moon planet, forest planet, you know. He is served to fight the aliens. But, when he turns into his Avatar, he ends up on a fantastical journey, especially in 3D. I saw the Extended Edition on Blu-Ray. Also, the DVD. Violence: The violence contains stabbings, fistfights, an intense, intriguing forceback scene, fighting scenes, gun scenes, shooting scenes, and, intense violent scenes. For example: Think Spoiler alert: a brain-poisoning arrow through someone's chest. Non-spoiler alerts: The violence was worth the PG-13. So is the language. Moderate at one point. There is smoking by Dr. Grace Augistine. Animal and creature violence (brief but for some reason, didn't hurt my brain). There also may be some drinking. If you watch the extended version, watch out for the following: A person beating the (snap) out of Jake (at the start). Fairly intense. The sex scene is fairly brief, but, not that bad. The consumerism: Probably confused with the Nickelodeon series. For this, probably: Back-packs. Books. Novelisations. Home Releases. An extended edition. etc. Also, 20th Century Fox. Some startling scenes as well. Other sex includes; the Navi are barely dressed. At all. For that matter. Do also expect Jake as a positive role model (sort of), turning against his league. Positive messages are; Be yourself. Keep true. At least I think so. Thanks for reading! MoviesAreAwesome.

The Natives are NAKED!

Great movie, but some sexual things: the Na'vi are practically naked: the women's breasts are almost constantly visible--but keep in mind that these are supertall blue creatures that have a totally different look on clothing. Still, the women could almost be considered naked--where their butts should be can be seen, and their vaginas are visible, but don't really bear a resemblence to human privates.

not for anyone

This movie was a dissapointing, unrealistic, sci-fi movie with cheesy acting. There is a graphic sex scene (They are shown nude from the waist up, making out and cerresing each other in sensitive spots. They are also rithing around and moaning in pleasure). Language is very freaquent with uses of every swear word (exept the f-bomb) at least once. violence is intence and violent, a BIG concern. My MPAA rating is PG-13 for strong war violence, thematic intensity, sexual content, language, and some smoking.

really good

The movie was really amazing and had a really great message in the end to save the world. Language is bad, lots of swearing and cursing between characters. The mating scene was disturbing... not for youngsters that part. The blue people wear next to nothing and female genitals are shown when he is taken to their tribe. Violence was biggest problem. Otherwise movie suitable for boys more than girls.

James Cameron's Avatar

Avatar is extremley complex, and a true visual marvel! With cool characters, anmails, plants, and more this flim will shock audiness! The movie is so beautiful, and brainy. But is Avatar okay for your kids? There is some exremely intense violence. Many major characters are also killed. The realstic special effects make this even more scary. The Na'vi were little clothing. In one seen Neytiri breats are evedent but not fully seen. Jake and Neytiri also flirt, kiss, and have sex. Strong Langage also is a big factor in this flim. Avatar is fine for kids 13 and up. Avatar is a amazing , and wellmade epic! James Cameron delivers another masterpeice!

Dazzling, epic, emotional, and jarring

This was a great film, with nice special effects and creative storytelling. While it seems rather familiar at this point, it still represents James Cameron's amazing plot techniques. There are positive messages and role models, but also lots of violence, plus some sex, language, and smoking. Also, it inspired tons of toys, apps and a video game, so kids will probably want them after seeing this movie. I would call this my second favorite James Cameron film, after Titanic.

Great film, but also very emotional and violent

This is a great classic film, but it is very emotional and violent. This movie also has a lot of strong language. There are some great role models and some bad ones so if you know your kids can handle it than I say Let them see it. You know you have done something wrong if you kid is not upset at some of the sad scenes
