they could have chosen more wisely a few scenes

THINK directors, think. This movie is supposedly for young children. Why then, have a scene where a young teen girl chooses to go to a party without asking her parents, is offered alcohol (which she refuses), is enticed to go "upstairs to see the view", then is kissed and the boy locks the room, insinuating that he was going to force her into something sexual (rape?). Wow, by miracle, the dog helps her escape. What? This is way to important an issue to bring up in this kind of movie.

Bland comedy marred further by bad editorial choices

Narrowly missed date rape scene is completely out of place in a movie for small children. Also, the "bad guys" in the movie intend to drown some puppies - pretty upsetting for small children.

Re: they could have chosen more wisely a few scenes

I completely agree with mkgs. Also, when Beethoven saves Ryce from getting raped, he does so by accident. Ryce tied him to the post supporting the balcony when she went into the house, and several boys were on top of the balcony pouring beer on him. Finally in anger, Beethoven pulls the leash so hard that the balcony collapses. and the back wall of the bedroom is torn off. What on earth is this doing in a kids' movie? Little children are too young to know about drugs and alcohol, and those who are old enough will not appreciate the juvenile humor of the film.

Almost date rape glazed over

Not only is this movie saturated with sappy love songs and hug, kiss scenes that drag out several seconds too long, has a sloppy and thin plot, isn't funny and is completely unrelatable... It has also has an underage drinking scene where character Ryce is enticed upstairs by boy she has a school-girl crush on and when she is ready to stop and leave, the door is locked, and he makes comments alluding her not having a choice in theater. Oh, but don't worry people: no need to get the police involves, the family's St. Bernard saves the day by managing to cause the lake-side of the house to collapse into water and Ryce was magically a few feet away from the collapse as teen crush/date raper falls into the water. PROBLEM SOLVED EVERYONE! Perfect teachable moment for my 6yo right? Don't worry sweetheart, if a handsome, drunk boy ever locks you in a room with him, a slobbery animal will save you. And don't even worry about the trauma and self esteem issues you will endure - don't you see? It all works out. You just find another boy to have a crush on, no problem. I hope everyone reading sense the sarcasm and stays away from this movie. Even if your child is old enough to watch, it is a lousy piece of junk.

Almost as good as the first movie!

I like this movie a whole lot. Not as quite as much as the first but it's pretty cute and funny. There are a few things parents should watch out for, though. 1. When Ryce goes to her boyfriend Aaron's party, the kids try to get Ryce to drink beer. However, Ryce sticks to her guns and says 'no'. 2. Aaron says to Ryce,"Let's go upstairs to see the view." They go upstairs. They go to a private room and Aaron locks the door. Of course, Aaron had an urge to have sex with Ryce but they just make out. I don't think parents really should worry, though. Most things go over little kids' heads.
