Extraordinary throwback genre film!

I was thrown for a loop when the film started out: all, yes all of the characters speak in a hyper-stylized lingo that winks heavily at the hardboiled 40's mysteries of the old days. Gordon-Levitt nails it as usual as Brendan, a cynical teen trying to find out who killed his girlfriend, as he gets lost in the seedy underworld of a high school drug kingpin. It'll confuse you at first, but the payoff makes it worth the watch!
