Fun comedy, treating a serious subject with positive values and messages
I was very pleasantly surprised by this movie, which I expected to be a light comedy. It isn't. It treats the subject of overweight teens, not only addressing bulling, but also the way discrimination is nested in society's values. It does so with humor, sensitivity and common sense. Good values are everywhere: family love, friendship, loyalty, acceptance and befriending of "weirdos", mutual support, and true love (based on different ideas of beauty and on likable character). Difficulties are addressed also, people are estranged at some point, there are mother - daughter clashes, disillusionment, self-doubt and insecurity. The movie resolve these issues with positive messages about life. While all these issues are there, they are not treated with gravity, so that the movie can be thoroughly enjoyed by those looking for a fun time.
