Positive Messages

There are always lessons that can be learned from nature, but Enchanted Kingdom is mostly interested in simply observing.

Positive Role Models & Representations

No humans appear in the show, but animals are treated with respect and awe.

Violence is limited to animal predators (ants, lions, crocs, etc.) attacking prey.

There's some flirting amongst flamingos, but no more than that.

What's the story?

ENCHANTED KINGDOM travels to remote locations throughout the continent of Africa to see how nature thrives in dangerous terrain. The show finds intriguing and beautiful  creatures from places such as the ocean and the desert and watches how they interact with their families and herds, as well as how they cohabitate (or not!) with other species.

Is it any good?

What begins as a fairly rote -- if beautifully shot -- nature show very quickly becomes a quirky and mesmerizing entry into the animal documentary canon. Enchanted Kingdom succeeds because even though it attempts to cover the massive and incredibly diverse continent of Africa, it ultimately keeps things simple. In each of the eight different regions the documentary highlights, the series zeroes in on one or two uniquely interesting creatures. This zoom lens helps teach viewers about life in these remote locales while also providing the spectacle and entertainment expected from docs like this.

Talk to your kids about ...

  • Families can talk about Africa. What did you know about Africa before watching Enchanted Kingdom? What did you learn about the continent? Did your impression of it change at all?

  • Were you surprised by the way any of the animals behave? Which animals did you think were fun? Scary? Friendly? Mean?

  • Of all the places Enchanted Kingdom travels, which is your favorite? Why? Do you think you could visit any of these places?
