Know Your Child

You need to know the sensitivity of your own child. The animals are not Disney-fied and therefore their behavior seems violent to a child. There is also the issue of loss of family (although not shown, expressed in Pi's sole survival). My son fixated on the questions of faith and had many questions about Pi's conversion to so many religions. He liked that this is what made him relate to the tiger and survive. For our family the movie led to many good discussions.

Parent of a 14 year old Written byrobinpeggy January 9, 2013

Totally harrowing for under 14, I disagree with CSM here

I am stunned that CSM would think 10 year olds could see this. I wouldn't let my 14 year old, who is very sophisticated, see it. She would be freaked out by the violence towards animals. And although I think she is sophisticated enough to grasp the greater themes of the movie, she would have long left the theater in tears before getting there.
