Amazing film, but very intense.

Life of Pi is a fantastic film with all kinds of exotic animals, but it is quite intense for a PG. The part that under 7s should not really watch is when animals are attacked or eaten. 9+.

terrible book adaption has stupid characters and bad uses of 3D

they said this film was impossible to shoot. i agree. but the reason i think they said that was that it was so awful they could never film it. its a pathetic waste of a good 2 hours that could be spent watching something worthwhile. the movie has dumb characters, unnecessarily annoying uses of 3D, and a story that usually goes nowhere! its a big fat fail for Ang Lee, who go back to making hardcore action films like he first did.

Slice of 3D Pi

HOLY SMOKES! Let me just say that this movie redefines 3-D movies FOREVER! This is the reason 3D was made. Not any of that Judy-Moody, or Hugo poop where 3D is wasted, but HERE is where it's at. This was a very good, deep, and emotional film, that left you thinking what's reality, and what isn't. Very, very, very good movie. Deserves an oscar. Other than that though, should've been PG-13. I mean PG my b-utt. THis movie is nowhere near PG.

review #12 by rwb

one of the best movies ever.youll get blurry eyed. positive role models,5 pi tries to find his own religon even if other people dont agree.in pi's journey theres strong themes for letting go,friendship, faith etc. and lots of other things. positive role models,5in the sea pi does the most things he can do to survive.fights and survives through hungry animals,self-dought and vicious storms.pi's father want s pi to think criticly about things:'i would rather have you belive in somethings i disagree than accept all things.and lots of other things. vilonce,4 (some spoilers ahead)many intense violent parts including lots of action and peril.pi's family dies.animals eat each other little blood, scary.when the tiger growls its loud and may frighten people.in another scene theres a huge storm that almost kills peter parker (the lion) and pi.when he kills a fish he cries and sobs at the idea of taking away a life. also some yelling. sex,1 mild flirting and woman in swimsuit. language,2 p*ssing is said many times to make fun of pi's full name, piscine. also the word curry eaters is said as an isult

A real review

I'm sorry, I'm going to be completely honest with you. Don't listen to the reviews that say there is partial nudity... I'm mean come on! The kid is stranded on a boat in the middle of the Pacific ocean without a shirt. 2 year olds go swimming without shirts. Violence might be intense for young kids I'd say 4 and under, but it's just nature really. A tiger kills a hyena and a live goat (both off-scene) but the dead animals it drags along in its mouth might be a little disturbing for the youngsters. There is not much language at all some school kids call Pi (Piscine) pissing, but not bad, just bullying. It really has great messages about religion and survival, it's a beautiful movie.

Beautiful

This was such a great film. Ang Lee is truly an amazing director, he was able to make a movie where their are only two main characters (plus 3/4 of the film take place out in the ocean) astounding. Pi is an excellent role model, and the bond between Richard Parker and Pi is inspirational. The animal violence is a little disturbing, but the worst of it happens off screen, and it's nothing a ten-year-old hasn't already seen on Animal Planet.

An Excellent Movie

This movie is excellent. It's one of the best movies of 2012. The CGI is amazing. There are some intense scenes that might upset young kids, especialy kids who are sensitive to animals. There are good messages and role models too.

So deep...

There is blood and an insane shipwreck. Also pi tells the officials that the animals were actually humans, so in other words he was involved in murder and is a canibal. Also almost every animal dies and the tiger is portrayed as more evil than a friend to pi. There are some swears too.

THE WONDERFUL LIFE OF PI!

Heart-breaking story, you just sit there in tears with a soggy tissue since you have been crying so much. Its a brilliant film but you will find that you throat throbs since theres some sad emotional events, but since your past that you find out the life of Pi and Richard Parker [a beautiful lion that was raised in Pi's zoo may be quite violent but is very cuddly<3] so thinking of watching it now that I have told you? I would because you would love it!

Cast Away on a boat with problematic spiritual elements

“Although the photography is stunning as well as the camera angles; the movie ultimately isn’t that good because of its plodding pace, muddled problematic spirituality, clichéd survival story (Think Cast Away on a boat instead of an island. Instead of a volleyball think a tiger) and an ending that wasn’t executed properly even if it does make you think”.

Sad, harrowing, intense movie not for young kids.

NOT FOR UNDER 10, PAUSE 11-12, OK 13 and UP. AMAZING SPECIAL EFFECTS, SCENERY, DRAMA, STORY, AND, EVERYTHING. Sad, harrowing movie for a PG that you should be cautious about. Much more than an adventure tale. Beautifully-designed opening credits, not to mention stunning special effects, and a great 3D fantasy sequence that's kinda weird. It's about a French-Indian teen boy who tells the story of his life to a journalist/writer, covering everything from religion, to faith, to predatory animal behaviour, to survival. The real fun starts half-an-hour in, if you really get into it. Younger kids may find it too slow, older kids will appreciate it and teens and adults; they will love it as soon as they get the jist. It's mainly about a shipwreck survivor, named/called Pi Patel (bullied as "P---ing Patel", who has to share a ship with a tiger, a hyena, an orang-utan and a zebra. Good twists and turns, funny, huge, comedy, nice, packed-in drama, etc. ANIMAL LOVERS BE WARNED, SKIP 3 LINES: A goat is put out of his misery off-screen by a tiger, most of the boat animals are put out of their misery in silhouette, and, we see the wounded zebra repeatedly; also, fish are battered outside of the screen (a cool letter-box technique). - ANIMAL VIOLENCE OVER. Language includes 'p---ing', and adult themes include religion, faith, survival, poverty, and, socially complex issues, too. All-in-all, a good movie. No sexuality, drugs or nudity, but there is animal blood shed and previously-mentioned language and adult themes. PLUS, IT IS EVEN MORE EMOTIONAL THAN AVATAR EVER WAS. Thankyou for reading my review.

Horrible movie!

Very intense. Why does President Obama even like this movie? It was intense to watch. - ;( It sends the wrong message: Never go on a boat ever again. And you will hate tigers. If you get nauseous, Life of Pi makes you SEA SICK :(

Just so touching

This movie is just so touching. Apparently, the book is much more complicated, so its great they made a movie, so it all makes more sense. The special effects in this film are flawless. Altough this film might be a little depressing and not understandable for little ones, great for anyone 9 and up.
