What's the Story?
A crystal jewel has been stolen by three bumbling Vikings from an ominous dragon lair in MIKE THE KNIGHT: JOURNEY TO DRAGON MOUNTAIN. The jewel is recovered in Glendragon, home of Mike the Knight and his royal family. Mike's dad, the King, must make what may be a perilous journey to return the jewel to Dragon Mountain. He asks Mike to stay behind to take care of his mom and his little sister, Evie (who has some budding wizardly skills of her own). But Mike doesn't listen. He's on a mission to show his dad what a great knight he is and how he's developed his "knightly skills." When the king leaves, Mike and his faithful horse Galahad, along with Sparkie and Squirt, two sidekick dragons, take off after him, followed quickly by scooter-driving Evie, all in hot pursuit. Of course, by not following their dad's instructions, Mike and Evie make a mess of things; the mysterious crystal is lost and found and lost and found again. It takes teamwork to return the jewel safely to its rightful owner. And, once that happens, a major surprise awaits them all.
Is It Any Good?
The boastful, spirited little knight encounters funny villains, a fearsome dragon that isn't fearsome at all, and learns an important lesson about listening to his dad; fans won't be disappointed. It's also a nice introduction for those new to the brand. A highlight of this entry is the music; several Broadway-like production numbers are original, well-produced, and very entertaining. It's definitely best suited for little kids, though at just under an hour, it may be a bit long for very young viewers. Older children may find it simplistic, obvious, or juvenile.
