"Raging Bull" is a raw and brutal masterpiece that pulls no punches. Robert De Niro plays Jake LaMotta, a real life middleweight boxer, who primarily destroys his life and others around him because of having a short temper and making bad decisions. He's not only violent inside the ring, but also outside the ring. The screenplay is well-done, Martin Scorsese's direction is outstanding, and the cinematography is exquisite (shot mostly in black and white). Additionally, "Raging Bull" won two Oscars, including Best Actor (De Niro) and Best Film Editing. Plus, it features a strong supporting cast, including Cathy Moriarty (in her Oscar-nominated role of Vicki, Jake LaMotta's wife), Joe Pesci (in his Oscar-nominated role of Joey, Jake's brother), Frank Vincent, and Nicholas Colasanto. "Raging Bull" is not only one of the best movies of the 1980s, but of all-time, as well. Lastly, it is a film that is not for children to watch at all, because of the strong profanity and violence. A first-rate movie.
