Nice movie with a deep message

This movie is about a famous, rich actor who has no real friends. All of the women he dates want to be with him because he's a famous actor. But when his daughter comes, everything changes. He knows someone is really out there for him and he finally sees the bright side of life. In the end, he realizes fame made him someone with a boring life and he wanted to stop being famous and enjoy life's simple pleasures. I think most teens will not understand this message and the movie itself will seem pretty boring. Suitable for children 12+ but I think it will be enjoyed more by teens 14+.

Small indie gem is an exceptional work of art that leaves you speechless!

Somewhere is a beautiful, realistic movie about a bored movie star, who searches for meaning and purpose in life, which he begins to find in his eleven-year-old daughter. If you are expecting an average, run-of-the-mill drama-comedy, know fully well that that is far from what Somewhere actually is. It is an independent, art-house movie which has long scenes in which nothing really seems to be going on, but that is how Somewhere connects to us. Somewhere is a pleasure only for adults, however, possibly a mature, older teenager. The following content problems include: ___________________________________________________________________ - Sex scenes that involve upper and partial female nudity, some fairly graphic.___________________________________________________________ - Foul Language (A few uses of f--k and other lesser profanities).________ - Pill popping and drug related content._______________________________ - Frequent smoking, drinking, and partying.____________________________ - Adultrous affairs, smoking, swearing, etc all in the presence of a child.__ ___________________________________________________________________ What also should be noted is the heavy emotional themes and immoral characters. The main character has many affairs with various women, through-out, even when his young daughter is nearby. You can tell throughout the movie that the main character is emotionally disturbed with his life style and also bored and depressed. The main character also is frequently stoned, watching pole-dancers, and hosting/attending parties. ___________________________________________________________________ *Spolier Starts Here!* The ending mostly redeems the movie morally. After he drops his daughter off at summer camp, Johnny drives home, feeling the emptiness he felt before his daughter entered his life. He breaks down emotionally in his hotel room and calls some of his lovers to come and comfort him, which they decline and tell him they can't. Eventually, Johnny suddenly checks out of his hotel room the next morning, apparently tired of his current life, and begins to drive far away from the hotel, knowing that the only way he can find true purpose in life is to leave his past behind. *Spoiler Ends Here!* ___________________________________________________________________ While the ending could be considered uplifting, the rest of the movie is strongly iffy for anyone under seventeen. The teen most be aware that the main character has lots of moral and emotional issues and is in no way a role model in any shape or form. It is only when he found love, exspecailly the love of his daughter, that he truly felt some kind of peace deep down inside. ___________________________________________________________________ Altogether, Somewhere is strictly for mostly an adult audience that fully understand that there are some messed up people out there and remember that they are not truly happy. What makes Somewhere even more iffy, even for adults, is the sex scenes featured occasionally that contain nudity. These are graphic and easily could have been toned down. Caution is recommended for any aged audience before watching Somewhere, though it should not be avoided.

Starring Elle Fanning and Stephen Dorff

"Somewhere" is an excellent drama/comedy that features brilliant, multi-dimensional performances from Elle Fanning and Stephen Dorff. Like many other Sofia Coppola films, it's mainly a character study. Actually, this film is all character study. It's beautifully shot and the film itself looks glossy and vibrant. There are a few too many long shots that just show characters doing everyday things which I noticed in "Lost in Translation" also, but not so much in "The Bling Ring." It's a very good movie. There a few scenes of nudity and implied sex. A few f-words but it's an overall tame film. One character is shown constantly drinking and smoking.
