What's the Story?
YOU'VE GOT THIS is the story of married couple Alex (Mauricio Ochmann) and Ceci (Esmeralda Pimentel). Alex is ready to become a dad. He loves kids and is good with them. Ceci is very involved in her high-powered executive career, just now really starting to take off thanks to her talent and drive. When Alex makes a casual offer to help a teen mom (Regina Reynoso) with her baby, he has no idea how quickly the little bundle will land right in his lap. But Ceci's adamant she doesn't want kids right now. How can their marriage survive when each one has such different dreams?
Is It Any Good?
This romantic comedy has a familiar story of a couple with very different ideas about their future, but thanks to an able cast and one adorable baby, it's not without its charm. The characters are mostly romcom standards, from the goofy sidekick to the eccentric and overly strict boss. But You've Got This also has a little bit of genuine heart in Alex's attempt to help a struggling young mom. A lot of the comedy falls a little flat, but there are a few genuine, if gentle, chuckles along the way. Teen appeal is probably limited thanks to the main characters who are all in their 20s and 30s, but those who are wondering what their adult lives might be like or who are learning how to resolve conflicts in long-term relationships might enjoy it.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about the strong language in You've Got This. Is it realistic? Does it matter if it is? Why?
Ceci faces sexism both from her husband Alex and from her coworker Guillermo. Do you think she deals with it well? How does the movie show that both Alex and Guillermo are wrong?
What are some of your favorite comedies about relationships? How does this one compare?
