Angst-ridden indie tune is a bit odd but OK for teens.

What parents need to know

Positive messages

The meaning is very much open for interpretation, so there is no overall message to take away. Although it's only brief snippets, a boy in the video for the song is shown stealing.

Positive role models

The band members seem to live a quiet, tabloid-free life so far.

Parents Need to Know

Parents need to know that this song doesn't include any bad words or inappropriate content, just a little bit of a mixed message that's kind of hard to define. "We're going down" is repeated numerous times, with the implication that things are taking a turn for the worse, although just what is going on is never clearly defined. The meaning, however, is very much open for interpretation, so listeners might come away with a slightly different impression. Also, a boy in the video for the song is shown stealing.

What's the story?

"ALL THE RIGHT MOVES" is the lead single off of OneRepublic's sophomore album, Waking Up. Class struggle or the fight to be a part of the "in" crowd might have something to do with the angst, but there almost seems to be a resignation and hopelessness about the song. The single has been on the charts since its debut in the fall of 2009, but has experienced renewed interest in 2010, making its way into the top 20 of the US charts.

Is it any good?

QUALITY

With an odd combination of high-pitched vocals, club sensibilities, dance beats, and introspective songwriting, this single definitely stands out from the pack. Look for an incredibly catchy hook that will have you humming the harmonious lyrics, but don't overlook the intriguing lyrics and what they have to say, as well.

Better Than Average

I will admit that I'm not really a One Republic fan (the only song I really like of theirs is "Apologize"), but "All The Right Moves" was pretty good. It's one of those danceable catchy songs that could get on your nerves, but overall I like it. I don't think there's anything inappropriate in it, either, which makes it perfect for kids.
