Parents Need to Know

Parents need to know that this song is more of the same from Lady Gaga: she uses a celebratory tone to describe a dysfunctional relationship, making it seem more cool than wrong. The word "bitch" is repeated throughout, and there is one minor sexual euphemism.

What's the story?

Dance diva Lady Gaga keeps churning out the singles, her latest being BAD ROMANCE -- the first track from her new album called The Fame: Monster, which is actually a reissue of her debut record titled simply The Fame. The song is a catalogue of all the things Gaga wants in a guy. Though a lot of girls might include traits like sweet, thoughtful, and smart in their romance wish-lists, Gaga’s contains characteristics such as “psycho” and “criminal:” “I want your drama…I want your revenge…I want your horror…’Cause I’m a freak bitch, baby!” The end result is a serially troubling tune from this young artist who seems to almost revel in bad relationships rather than shun them.

Is it any good?

QUALITY

Reminiscent of Madonna’s singular talent for reinventing herself, Lady Gaga has a way of tweaking her singles so that each has its own appeal. In Bad Romance, the hook is her deep-toned chant-singing that sounds a lot like seventies-era British superstar Siouxsie Sioux. The vocal approach is accompanied by a heavy synth-line that you can easily envision echoing through the clubs, where this song is sure to receive plenty of spins.

Gaga's signature song. Brilliant, but has some language.

There are few singers in the last decade that gained as much fame as Lady Gaga did. Plus she can look back at a career full of hits and memorable moments, unlike most popstars having some hits but none of them being remembered years after. Lady Gaga is a phenomenon, the Madonna of the 2000s and the 2010s. "Bad Romance" is truly Gaga's signature song. It has everything that makes her, and more. It has her extravagance, all the glitter and glamour, as well as her unique style and diva-like behaviour. But on the hand, it is also very catchy, has heavy and memorable beats and synthesizer melodies. Gaga's singing varies from her typical monotonuous, almost boy-like verses to an enormously strong and melodic chorus. "Bad Romance" is not only a memorable earworm, but also well produced and not unlikely Gaga's best song. Also, it's quite possible that it's going to be a classic in a few decades. ... "Bad Romance" is not overly sexual or vulgar, but has some uses of b****h. The music video shows a burned corpse that looks rather graphic.
