What's the story?

It's
\
not as easy as you'd think to find children's music that doesn't bore the pants
\
off parents and older siblings, but BE NICE is one fine example. Ilene Altman
\
("Leeny"), and Steve Equi ("Steve") have produced sixteen songs that explore
\
small moments in a child's life with titles like "Stinky Diaper," "Hangin' at
\
the Playground," and "Sometimes I Just Need a Hug" -- along with explorations of
\
the natural world on songs like "Mammals," "Clouds," and "What Have You Done
\
with All the Penguins?"

Is it any good?

Berklee
College of Music graduates Leeny and Steve bring an impressive degree of taste
and musicianship to Be Nice, a welcome quality in a genre where artists often
take shortcuts. The result is a delightful
collection of toddler-friendly songs that will not send older family members
running from the room. Prepare to be charmed by sparkling vocals and
instrumental tracks that sound richer and more complex than those usually
produced by a couple of indie-recording folks in a home studio.

Talk to your kids about ...

  • Families can talk about the song "It's Not Nice," which lists many ways of misbehaving. Can you make up your own list of behavior

  • that isn't (or is) nice? "Breakfast for Dinner" is about making eggs and

  • pancakes for dinner. It might be fun to plan a family "Backwards Day" or

  • "Opposite Day."
