"Clique" (CD Single)

Rap titans celebrate spending, sex in explicit rap tune.

What parents need to know

Positive messages

Wasting all of your hard-earned money on partying, prostitutes, and expensive toys is a negative message.

Positive role models

Song embraces excessive spending and a lavish lifestyle.

Not applicable

Mentions prostitution: "Freaky women I be feeling from the bank accounts I'm feeling."

Repeated use of "f--k" and "s--t."

Plenty of celebrity and product references, from Maybach to Gucci to Tom Cruise.

Drinking, drugs, & smoking

Mentions drinking and a "drug-dealing cousin."

Parents Need to Know

Parents need to know that "Clique" is a classic rap song in nearly every sense of the word: It features lots of profanity and bragging about how much many millions of dollars can buy, along with some racist comments ("You know white people get money, don't spend it ... I rather buy 80 gold chains and go ig'nant"). The iffy content (including mentions of drinking and prostitution) makes this track best for older teens and up.

What's the story?

Rap titans Kanye West, Jay-Z, and Big Sean team up in "CLIQUE," the fourth track from the first full-length album, Cruel Summer, released by the record label G.O.O.D. Music. Established in 2004 by West, the rapper Common, and R&B crooner John Legend, the label hosts a roster of musicians including artists like Kid Cudi, The Dream, and Pusha T.

Is it any good?

A haunting hook dominates this methodical track, with powerful performances by all three of these heavy-hitting rappers. Musically, the track showcases the infectious sounds that have made each of these artists famous. Too bad the content isn't appropriate for kids.

Families can talk about...

  • Families can talk about why so many rap songs glorify excessive spending? Can you think of other genres that also celebrate a lavish lifestyle?

  • What do you like about this track? The beat? The rhymes? The message?

  • How does "Clique" compare with other songs by Kanye, Jay-Z and Big Sean?

Decent rap song.

Clique is a decent rap song because Jay-Z and Big Sean are awesome in it, but the hook is annoying. They say f--- a lot, and also b---- and the n word a few times. There is also one mild drug refrence. Overall fine for 13 year olds and up.

And halo is not for kids

This song is good, but they seriously need to change some of the ratings on here. If this is iffy for 15 and under, and halo 4 is not for kids, thats just stupid. This song says so many curses and a lot of sexual stuff. Its still good tho
