Another Britney song with lots of innuendo, starting with "hold it against me."

watch out!

There is a lot of noticeable product placement in the video. Also some video game style violence. Decent lyrics.

What's the story?

HOLD IT AGAINST ME is Britney Spears' first single since "3", the pop icon's super-racy tune about having a threesome. This relatively tame song is part of the singer's comprehensive effort to get both her career and personal life back on track. And the clean lyrics contain none of the explicit references or adult content that have marked other Spears tunes; instead, they describe a pretty innocent attraction forming between two people on the dance floor: "You feel like paradise, I need a vacation tonight / So if I said I want your body now, would you hold it against me?" Overall, the song is much more appropriate for younger audiences than many of Spears' other songs.

Is it any good?

In recent years, Brit's music has morphed from pure pop songs (which were often remixed for the clubs) into dance tunes that stand on their own. "Hold It Against Me" follows this trend, with a driving synth beat and lots of Auto-Tune that helps to distort her so-so vocals. Die-hard Spears fans will undoubtedly love the new track, despite the fact that it doesn't offer anything too original.

Talk to your kids about ...

  • Families can talk about Spears' music. This single is much tamer than previous releases; why do you think she chose to release a less controversial track?

  • Can a song by an artist known for her sex appeal be popular without edgy lyrics?

  • This song is part of Spears'

  • effort to get both her career and personal life back on track. Does this single change your opinion of the singer and her music? Why or why not?
