What parents need to know

Positive messages

A super-sweet song about being just what your spouse or partner needs, at just the right time.

Positive role models

With lyrics like "You be my sunny day, I'll be your shade tree," how could you not look to Shelton as a role model for what a good man should be?

Metaphorical mention of wine and whiskey.

Parents Need to Know

Parents need to know that this song is family-friendly country music at its best, a simple song about being someone's partner. There's not a speck of sex or anything inappropriate for kids, other than a metaphorical mention of wine and whiskey, so it's OK for most ages.

What's the story?

"HONEY BEE" is a simple, sweet, somewhat cliched country tune that lacks the genre's stereotypical reliance on heartache or references to trains, drinkin', or Momma. The single debuted on the American Country Music awards, and shot up the digital charts almost immediately.

Is it any good?

Country music lovers will fall all over themselves for this song -- a hokey-to-the-point-of-adorable tune that could be a guy's secret weapon to get the girl. With lyrics that croon, "You be my glass of wine, I'll be your shot of whiskey, You be my sunny day, I'll be your shade tree," it's hard not to fall in love with Blake Shelton, let alone "Honey Bee." And old-school country fans will love the references to legends like Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty.

Families can talk about...

  • Families can talk about the fact that this song debuted on a live music awards show. Do you think this is done to boost sales? Do you think it's effective?

  • Blake Shelton used to be a participant on the popular NBC show The Celebrity Apprentice. Do you think celebrities and artists only go on TV shows to promote themselves or their product? Does it work?

  • In what other instances have celebrities appeared on reality shows to boost their careers?

I really like this song. Blake Shelton is a great artist. No bad content, so good for kids, too.
