What parents need to know

Positive messages

The overall message is not to settle in love: "But I don't want 'good' and I don't want 'good enough.'"

Positive role models

While the "let's be crazy" message of the song and the music video do portray some reckless behavior -- the video shows the couple sneaking into a closed swimming pool and throwing bottles off a roof -- the overall message is positive. Hayes doesn't want to settle for the ordinary.

Violence

Sex

The lyrics talk about kissing and hugging ("I don't want just another hug and a kiss goodnight") and feature some light innuendo.

Parents Need to Know

Parents need to know that Hunter Hayes' single "I Want Crazy" is about taking risks in love. While the song and the video do suggest somewhat irresponsible behavior ("I love that we're rebels and we still believe / We're the kind of crazy people wish they could be"), the overarching message is it's okay to go a little crazy for love. And with only some mild talk about kissing and no iffy language or references to drugs or alcohol, this sweet song is appropriate for tweens and up.

What's the story?

"I WANT CRAZY" is the first single from the Encore edition of Hunter Hayes' self-titled album, which already featured three top singles. This talented country crooner co-wrote or wrote every track on the album and also played every instrument, including the fast-paced mandolin licks on "I Want Crazy." The sweet song and music video show a long-distance couple deciding that taking some risks is worth it for their "can't sleep, can't breathe without you" love.

Is it any good?

QUALITY

The message isn't anything new, but you don't have to be a fan of country love songs to fall for this track. Hayes' fast-paced lyrics and frantic rhythm drive the song without losing any of the sweetness or intimacy of the message. It's a lovely song and never feels saccharine, although the video does feel a little cheesy compared to the sincerity of the song. Hayes continues to prove that he's a hit maker with his this single.

Families can talk about...

  • Families can talk about relationships. Do you think love isn't right if "you ain't lost your mind," like Hayes suggests?

  •

  • Why do you think Hayes re-released his album but added some new songs? Why didn't he just release a brand new album?
