Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that this appealing, energetic, tween-friendly CD is from a trio of cute young heartthrobs who are in heavy rotation on Radio Disney (and have also toured with Hannah Montana). Content-wise, there's not much to object to -- the romance is innocent and the lyrics are clean. The band's cuteness factor is played up with the first-ever enhanced CDVU+ format, which boasts photos, videos, lyrics, and an interactive poster -- all accessible on any computer.
What's the story?
The JONAS BROTHERS, a delightful young trio from New Jersey, are here to knock your socks off with their sophomore CD. It includes 14 well-delivered, mostly up-tempo (though a couple of ballads slide in and work pretty darn well) pop confections. The CD also offers a solid bonus with the new CDVU+ format, which includes photos, song lyrics, and video clips that are playable on any computer.
Is it any good?
Lyrics are carefully innocuous, dealing mostly with the roller-coaster ride of middle-school romance. Performances are energetic and effective, featuring silky-smooth vocals and some excellent guitar work. Mostly, what comes across is a sense of fun and a sweet collective personality with just enough of an edge to make these guys seem like terrific eighth-grade boyfriend material.
Families can talk about...
Families can talk about why the Jonas Brothers are so popular. How does Disney promote its stars? Also, how does a band's image help or hurt their popularity? Do you think the Jonas Brothers' good looks enhance their fame, or would you like their music no matter what they looked like? Families can also talk about the new CDVU+ (pronounced "view plus") format. Do you like having all the extra bells and whistles, or do you just care about the music?
