Parents Need to Know

Parents need to know that "Lights" is an upbeat, electro-pop single from young U.K. star Ellie Goulding, who is quickly making a name for herself in the U.S. The twenty-something sounds like a softer version of Adele, and the track is refreshingly free of iffy content.

What's the story?

Twenty-something U.K. singer Ellie Goulding brings her successful electro-folk-pop trademark to the U.S. with her single \"LIGHTS.\" The pulsing, upbeat track is from the album, Lights.

Is it any good?

QUALITY

Although her musical roots are in folk music, Goulding's light, electro-pop sound is catchy and fun, especially with her sugary, solid vocals that are a softer version of her fellow countrywoman, Adele. "Lights" is a great introduction to a fresh sound coming from across the pond and a nice alternative to the synth-heavy hip-hop and club beats that saturate radio play today.

Families can talk about...

  • Families can talk about the fact that so many female artists and celebrities feel the need to be sexy or portray a rebellious image in order to be successful in the music or movie industry. Who are some singers or actresses who don't fall under that trap?

  • Do you think young girls are getting enough positive celebrity role models?

  • Do you think Ellie Goulding has what it takes to be successful outside of the U.K.? What makes her special or different?

Ellie Goulding - Lights

Great album, most tracks are good but one track "Under the Sheets" is about the ups and down of sexual relationships which wouldn't be suitable for young kids. Nice catchy tunes though, but some "clean-cut" songs have other meanings, for example, "Starry Eyed" has the line "next thing, we're touching" repeating quite a lot of the song, most kids would ignore it though

Best song ever people

This is a truly amazing song. I love it so much, I never get tired of it. It's amazing and not shallow like Ke$ha's "music". It has a deep message and is an exciting song. It goes great with Doctor Who! This song is NOT about touching herself! She says "touch my own skin and hope that I'll still be there". So seeing if you exist! Like in a life-death situation or sci-fi thing.
