Love It!!!

LOVE IT!!! well, only really listened to a few songs on it (listening to more right now XD) anyway, getting serious. There's only a couple of songs with swears and on one of them you can barely hear it. Some of the best songs on there are Rhinestone Eyes, Stylo, On Melancholy Hill, and Superfast Jellyfish. A lot of the songs have positive messages in them, so a good album altogether. :)

Gorillaz is GOOD for kids.

This is another great album by Gorillaz. Coming from a kid's point of view, just hear me out, kay? I know you're thinking OMIGOD, my child does NOT need to hear all these cuss words. It doesn't cuss often, for one. And for two, if you have a child that is in a grade higher than kindergarden they hear more cuss words at school than in any of these songs. So calm it down. Gorillaz have messed up backstories. Yeah, okay. Gorillaz have GOOD music, with positive messages, and some dark imagery. So, a win-win I think. Plus, your children, if they don't obsess over the Gorillaz (like me) won't even understand the bad parts.

Bizarre blend of genre's is relatively clean

For those of you who know and like Gorillaz, skip the next few lines. But if you don't know the full shtick about these guys, read on. Gorillaz is a virtual band that is known for bouncing around between genres numerous times in one album. Plastic Beach is no exception. With songs like "Welcome to the World of Plastic Beach" (an Arabic-themed tune featuring, of all people, Snoop Dogg) to "Superfast Jellyfish" (a more rap-styled tune), you're in for a diverse ride. The members of this virtual band are 2-D (the lead singer, known for his slurring vocals), Murdoc (the self-proclaimed 'leader' of the band. A satanist), Noodle (the lead guitarist and a martial arts expert), and Russel (the drummer. He can channel spirits). As for the content, there's not much to worry about here. Sure, there's a line in "White Flag" that could be interpreted as to be about condoms, but it will most likely go over the heads of the little 'uns. And the line "sex on the beach, wanna try for a baby" is in "Cloud of Unknowning" and not "Rhinestone Eyes." There's a bit of four-letter wording in "White Flag" (s--t) and "Sweepstakes" (f--k and motherf----r), but that can be fixed by simply skipping over those songs when younger ears are in the room. Messages are positive and optimistic, and Plastic Beach is yet another solid and brilliant (dare I say epic?) CD by Gorillaz!

skip white flag and it's perfect for younger tweens

no, no, you got it all wrong. the refrences to condoms are in some kind of nature. it's in the phrases "some kind of plastic i could wrap around you" and "plastics and digital foils that wrap around the sound to protect the girls from the spiritual poison you spill at night" although the refrences sound so nonsensical that it will go right over your kid's heads. but the message about syntheic materials is still strong. there's no iffy content in rhinstone eyes but the phrase "sex on the beach gonna try for a baby" is actually in white flag. they rap so fast in sweepstakes that if there's any sign of iffy content it would be when you hear the word "mother", but you can still find the message about the lottery and gambling in there. the reason i said that there are bad role models is because most of the time the singer is singing in the "role" of the "villian", which might confuse younger kid's. example; "don't waste time witcho net, our net worth is set" "aim high, why not".

best album yet

Best album yet! only bad language in two songs. They take on eco issues without making it sound like a science report. If you take off those songs, any kid could listen to it.

Slightly edgy, but mostly clean fun.

This is probably the most clean Gorillaz CD. With great, fun songs like "Superfast Jellyfish", poking fun of old breakfast commercials, to "Stylo", with a groovy bass line and unintelligible lyrics. 2D, Noodle, and Russel are pretty good role models, but watch out for Murdoc. He is a bit edgy. The song, "Sweepstakes", Mos Def says the F-bomb two times, but he's rapping so fast it sounds like "funky". "White Flag" might be for older kids, but if you have parental advisory, it'd be safer. This album is mostly candy-filled fun.

Fun For Families

2D, Noodle, and Russel are great rolemodels. Watch out for Murdoc. Most of this stuff is clean cotton candy fun, and I would reccomend it. However, the world of Plastic Beach isn't always kid- friendly. Watch out for White Flag, it may teach some things you, or your children, don't really want to know yet. Other than that, positive messages dominate this album. A great pick!!

Excellent, excellent, excellent. Even the 2 iffy songs mentioned are fine for teens.

Welcome to the world of the Plastic Beach. The Gorillaz have always been my favorite band, and their latest CD lives up to my expectations. The guests are pretty awesome; Mos Def, De la Soul, Snoop Dogg, Little Dragon, and more. There's even a sample from an old Swanson breakfast commercial in the track Superfast Jellyfish. As content goes, teens have heard worse. The 2 songs that are the raunchiest are White Flag and Sweepstakes, as CSM said. The former is an awesome song as is, but some lines discussing sex and religion (as well as an s-word) might give parents pause. Sweepstakes is a good song, but it has 3 f-bombs. Still, this is pretty safe compared to most of the stuff teens listen to. Overall, this album is, to quote the track Rhinestone Eyes, "like rhinestones falling from the sky". Give this CD a listen. Best songs: Empire Ants, Superfast Jellyfish, Stylo, Rhinestone Eyes
