What's the story?

Putumayo World Music takes us on a trip across the pond to the land of leprechauns and harps in CELTIC CHRISTMAS, an 11-track album of classic Christmas songs with artists from Ireland, Scotland, America, and Canada. Artists include DruidStone and Dougie MacLean singing holiday tunes like "Noel Nouvelet" and "Auld Lang Syne." Most of the album is instrumental with simple, acoustic renditions of yuletide classics such as "Joy to the World," "Good King Wenceslas," and "Angels We Have Heard on High."

Is it any good?

Even if you think you aren't a big fan of Irish or Scottish music, you'll enjoy the holiday songs on Celtic Christmas. Most of the tracks are instrumental, with easy, soothing guitar, strings, and flute, invigorating holiday favorites in a fresh way while keeping the traditional sound that makes them Christmas jewels. An Irish, bluesy version of "White Christmas" is an unexpected but fun version of the beloved Bing Crosby tune. The album is one the entire family can enjoy whether sipping eggnog around the fire or cooking a holiday feast.

Families can talk about...

  • Families can talk about traditions. How does your family celebrate Christmas? Or do you celebrate a different holiday? What are some of your family holiday traditions?

  • What is some of your favorite song here? Why? Do you like a particular artist better than another?

  • How is this album different from holiday music you might usually listen to?
