Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that "READY OR NOT" is a very tame track about a shy girl who comes out of her shell on the social scene –– seeing a guy she thinks is cute and asking to dance with him. Aside from one mild reference to dancing together "all night," the song includes no profanity, sex, substances, or drinking, making it a fine pick for both younger and older tweens.
What's the story?
"READY OR NOT" is a single by Bridgit Mendler, the young star of Disney’s Good Luck Charlie series. It's about having a crush on a guy. Though Mendler's pipes appear on lots of other tracks -- including "Hang in There Baby," the theme song to her own series -- this single is her first independent release as a singer. It also serves as the lead track for her first album, Hello, My Name Is...
Is it any good?
Bridgit Handler deserves props for trying to break free of the synth-pop mold to which so many of her young peers conform: The tune has a slight reggae overtone that smacks ever so slightly of R&B titan Rihanna. And Handler's vocals are nothing to sneeze at. This talented artist is clearly a cut above the typical Disney starlet.
