What parents need to know

Educational value

From marine animals and metamorphosis to phytoplankton and Madame Curie, this album is a fun education in all things cool and curious.

Positive messages

Teaches kids that being curious is a good thing, from wondering if "somewhere in the universe there could be a planet like ours" to the fun in puzzles where "the figuring it out" is up to them. There's a whole world out there to be discovered, and this album encourages that.

Positive role models

Kids will feel safe and encouraged to learn about science and the world. "Oh Girl" sings about measuring the world to find out more: "You can be whatever you want to be, there's a world there if you want it." "Rocket Science" says, "Girls can do anything, girls are from shining stars."

What's the story?

SCIENCE FAIR is jam-packed with 18 tracks that bring out the science geek in everyone, young and old. What is phytoplankton? Who was Madame Curie? These questions and more are answered with cool indie-rock songs from talented children's artists like Elizabeth Mitchell, Laura Veirs, and Allison Faith Levy, among many others.

Is it any good?

QUALITY

Science Fair nurtures and celebrates the curiosity of childhood and the world around us with colorful and dramatic indie-rock music that parents might appreciate more than their kiddos. The melodies are hypnotic and fun, with some silly and smart lyrics about making discoveries, asking questions, and expanding your mind (and vocabulary) with terms like "phytoplankton," "quantum mechanics," and "radioactivity." Kids and parents will certainly learn a thing or two, and you might just realize you have some little scientists in the making. Bring on the white coats, goggles, and future Nobel Prize winners.

Families can talk about...

  • Families can talk about science. What do you know about the subject? What are you curious about?

  • What are some ways to get the answers to questions like "How does a caterpillar turn into a butterfly?" and "What is phytoplankton?"

  • Have you ever been to or participated in a science fair? If you could design an experiment, what would it be?
