What parents need to know

Positive messages

These super-steamy messages are too mature for kids.

Positive role models

Sexual behavior isn't positive or negative but is simply not age appropriate for kids.

Not applicable

Some suggestive lyrics like "Now relax and get on your back / If you wanna scream, let me know and I'll take you there ... If you want it done right / Hope you're ready to go all night."

Drinking, drugs, & smoking

Uses a metaphor about drinking to describe amorous feelings: "Got no drink in my hand, but I'm wasted / Gettin' drunk off the thought of you naked."

Parents Need to Know

Parents need to know that "Scream" is an extra-steamy song from super-smooth R&B star Usher. Known for mildly suggestive lyrics, Usher kicks the sexiness up a notch in this track, with lots of bedroom descriptions and a metaphor about feeling "drunk" with lust.

What's the story?

"SCREAM" is the second single from the seventh studio album by Usher -- still one of the hottest R&B vocalists around. With an assist from pop-producing powerhouse Max Martin, Usher again sings about well-covered territory: romance. However, he takes the intensity up a step, getting decidedly more graphic without launching into full-fledged explicit territory.

Is it any good?

Usher's music usually packs a twofold punch, combining killer vocals with an awesome beat. But when it comes to the latter, this song disappoints a bit -- featuring a beat that's appealing enough without sounding much different from the rest of the R&B pack.

Families can talk about...

  • Families can talk about why Usher may have deviated from his standard not-too-mature approach to produce this sexier-than-normal track.

  • Do artists need to resort to graphic sexual descriptions in order to interest people in their music? Why or why not?

  • Does R&B tend to have sexier lyrics than other genres, such as country or pop? Why are there so many songs about sex?

This song is terrible! It is a puke-in-your-mouth kind of song that has terrible, sexual lyrics and is just one of those songs to just stay right away from. Heard the first half of it once, never think I'll listen to it again.

I know this isn't the most disgusting song ever written, but I still think it is gross. I don't like the song itself, either. I especially hate the "naked" part, or should I say PARTS. Usher seems like an okay role model, though. PS: When he says ”Usher" in the song, it sounds like "oh s**t", lol. Also, there are some other steamy lyrics: "I tried to fight it, to fight it... But you're so magnetic, magnetic..." And, CSM, do you edit your reviews often? I could've sworn this was rated "on" for 13 and up once, but now it's rated "iffy"?
