"She Wolf" (CD single)

Aiming for drama, wolf howls just make dance track corny.

What parents need to know

Positive messages

Talks about cheating on the person you're with in order to get that person's attention.

Positive role models

Shakira's built a career around sex, and this song is no different. She portrays a woman's role in relationships as predatory.

Not applicable

Nothing too explicit, though a couple of references: "I'm gonna … get me a lover and tell you about it." And: "I'm having a very good time in the heat, very bad in the arms of a boy."

Parents Need to Know

Parents need to know that this is a song about very adult themes: a romantic relationship in which one partner plots revenge on another through cheating with someone else.

What's the story?

Latin diva Shakira sings about being a SHE WOLF in her latest single of the same name, telling the tale of a "domesticated girl" who, despite being a wholly devoted girlfriend, has lost the attention of the person she loves. Feeling "a little abused" and craving more affection, the girl decides to teach this person a lesson by going on the prowl at the local bar. Shakira has also released a Spanish-language version of the track titled “Loba.”

Is it any good?

Shakira's musical success has come from a combination of passable vocals and a bootylicious bod. Yet describing the vocals as passable on this disco-infused single is generous, with the singer throwing in all her usual voice-throws and other tricks to distort the truly mediocre quality of her voice -- plus a couple of weak wolf howls that are positively cheesy. The sound itself is nothing new for the clubs, which see legions of similar-sounding tracks march through on a regular basis.

Very mediocre

I don't like this song very much. I don't really like Shakira's singing, and the message in this song is negative. The howling part in the song is obviously a flirtatious, sexy gesture, but otherwise this song is actually pretty clean.

Big Shakira Fan!

I love Shakira. Her voice is beautiful, she's smart and such a good role model. She-Wolf has to be one of the best songs of her album and one of her best songs ever. Keep on rocking it fellow Shakira fans!
