Parents Need to Know

Parents need to know that "Some Nights" is a pretty accurate assessment of a young adult's emotional ups and downs, describing a guy who's not sure what he stands for -- but tries to find out in fits and starts. While there's a fleeting reference to sex and use of the word "f--k," and the overall tone is somewhat pessimistic, it's a relatively mild tune in the grand scheme of popular music. Parents can feel OK buying the clean version for older tweens and teens.

What's the story?

SOME NIGHTS is the second single from the album of the same name by Indie popsters who go by the name fun. ("fun[dot]"). In this tune, the three-man band examines the conflicting emotions that often accompany young adulthood, describing feelings of motivation one minute and exasperation the next.

Is it any good?

QUALITY

Though fun. claims hip-hop acts like Kanye West influenced this album, "Some Nights" smacks of Queen's big power-pop anthems. In contrast to its darker lyrics, the song's rapid-fire, clap-based beat has a more upbeat and "fun" feel.

Families can talk about...

  • What are some of your favorite things to do when you're feeling low?

  • How would you describe this song's sound? Is it typical of the songs you hear on the radio?

Not for kids!!!

This song is decent, but the singer decides to throw in a nice f-bomb for absolutely no reason. Most of these bands are drug addled lost left wing commies who are so out of touch that they think nothing of ruining a song with profanity. Kids listen to these songs over and over so it does sink in.

Some Nights.....

Ok for kids but there are some sexual references in every song in this album same with the word hell is used 1time in each song and drug content in all the songs but still 2explicit songs like in Some Nights (Intro) 1 use of s--t and 1 use of b---h and in Some Nights 1use of f--k s--t and b---h

Insanely catchy song

"Some Nights" is an incredibly catchy song that I just can't help but dance to. The music is extremely upbeat and Nate has amazing vocals and harmonizing abilities. The problem with this song is the mixed messages. Like the main review states, it goes from discussing self-discovery to reckless behavior. Sex: One line goes, "I found a martyr in my bed tonight / She stops my bones from wondering just who I am." Language: The "F" word is used once ("Who the f--k wants to die alone?") but the edited version takes it out.
